Construction work on the Dhaka-Sylhet six-lane highway is scheduled for completion in accordance with the tender by June 2029, after which it will be opened to the public.
Speaking alongside project officials, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Shaikh Rabiul Alam said this on Saturday while visiting the project site in Shoshoi area of Bijoynagar Upazila, Brahmanbaria district.
The minister also said that authorities are striving to overcome existing project deviations to implement the highway.
Out of the project’s 13 packages, work progress on eight packages is satisfactory, whereas progress across five packages remains unsatisfactory.
Rabiul said that efforts are underway to intensify physical work in areas where progress has fallen short.
Addressing public inconvenience, the minister acknowledged that citizens are currently experiencing some suffering due to a lack of significant progress over the past four years. Neither the previous government nor the interim government was particularly attentive to the project.
However, while land acquisition previously presented a major hurdle, the project is now overcoming the issue, and overall work progress is currently satisfactory.
