District police seized 325 grams of cannabis during an operation at a gold polishing and design shop in Swarnakar Patti area of Barguna municipal town on Saturday.
Acting on secret information, a district police team conducted the drive at the shop belonging to gold trader Sentu.
During the search, officers recovered a total of 325 grams of cannabis kept hidden inside several small packets. However, Sentu managed to flee the scene as police approached the shop after receiving reports of cannabis sales.
The raid was led by Barguna Additional Superintendent of Police Mukit Hasan Khan. Barguna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasnain, Investigation Officer Yunus Ali Farazi, and over 50 police members were present during the drive.
Speaking after the operation, Additional Superintendent of Police Mukit Hasan Khan said district police drives will continue in order to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against drugs.
He revealed that Sentu had been running a drug trade for a long time using his gold shop as a front, operating with extreme caution. Police had been keeping a close watch and lying in wait for several days before conducting the raid.
Mukit added that officers are investigating whether anyone else is involved in drug-related activities. He confirmed that the process of filing a case under the Narcotics Control Act against Sentu and others involved by nightfall was under way.
