A trap team from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has detained three people, including the sub-registrar of the Pahartali Sub-Registry Office, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Tk2 lakh in Chattogram.
The detainees have been identified as Sub-Registrar Abdus Sobhan, Head Clerk Faruk Islam, and office Umedar (daily-wage assistant) Rupan Das.
According to the complaint, a lawyer from Chattogram submitted two partnership deed agreements to the Pahartali Sub-Registry Office for registration on behalf of his client.
Although there were no defects in the documents, Sub-Registrar Abdus Sobhan and Head Clerk Faruk Islam allegedly withheld the registration and demanded a bribe of Tk2 lakh to complete the work.
Left with no alternative, the victimised lawyer lodged a complaint via the ACC hotline 106 and subsequently submitted a written application to the ACC District Office, Chattogram-1.
Following approval from the commission, a trap team from the ACC District Office, Chattogram-1 conducted a raid on Tuesday. During the operation, the team caught Sub-Registrar Abdus Sobhan, Head Clerk Faruk Islam, and Umedar Rupan Das red-handed while they were accepting the Tk2 lakh bribe.
A case is being filed against the detainees at the ACC District Office, Chattogram-1, and they are being produced before the court.
