Three buses caught fire in separate incidents in the capital on Saturday evening, although no casualties were reported.
The incidents occurred in Mirpur-11, Mirpur-1 and Maddha Badda between around 7pm and 8pm.
In Mirpur-11, a moving bus of Shikor Paribahan caught fire at around 7pm.
Two units of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze.
According to the Fire Service, the fire was caused by a mechanical fault.
Hasan Basir, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, confirmed the incident and said no one was injured.
Around 15 minutes later, a passenger bus of Abhijat Paribahan caught fire at the Mirpur-1 intersection.
Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, said someone had attempted to set the bus on fire.
“Someone tried to set a bus on fire, but it did not burn. We are working on the matter,” he said.
A video of the incident showed flames at the rear of the bus as several people outside attempted to douse them with water.
Later, at around 8pm, another bus caught fire in front of Canadian University in Maddha Badda.
Md Rashed, a sub-inspector and duty officer at Badda Police Station, confirmed the incident.
“We received information that a bus caught fire in front of Canadian University. Senior police officials are at the scene and are working there. Details will be available later,” he said.
The immediate cause of the Maddha Badda fire was not known. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Meanwhile, a video of the incident shows a bus of Alif Enterprise engulfed in flames, while several people attempt to extinguish the fire with water.
Four to five crude bombs exploded in front of Samad Super Market at Jatrabari intersection in the capital on Saturday evening, leaving a rickshaw-puller injured.
The incidents came a day after several cases of bus arson and crude bomb explosions were reported at different locations across Dhaka.
On Friday night, a bus of Mirpur Super Link Paribahan was set on fire in front of Kafrul Police Station.
Crude bomb explosions were also reported at several locations, including in front of and inside Jatrabari Police Station, as well as in Malibagh and Mohakhali.
