The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Shah Mustafa Alamgir, 55, a former central leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, on charges of involvement in subversive activities.
A team from the DB Gulshan Division conducted an operation based on specific allegations at around 7am on Wednesday in the capital’s West Agargaon area and arrested him.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP DB Gulshan Division AFM Anwar Hossain Khan confirmed the arrest in the afternoon.
Shah Mustafa Alamgir is a former president of the Dhaka University Kabi Jasimuddin Hall unit of the banned Chhatra League. He previously served as the social welfare secretary and organisational secretary of the central executive committee of the Chhatra League.
Additionally, he served as a former assistant secretary of the publicity and publication sub-committee of the activities banned Awami League and as a member of the Netrokona District Awami League.
According to the DB, Alamgir faces allegations of actively participating in various activities on behalf of the banned organisation aimed at creating instability in the country in recent times.
The process of taking further legal action against the arrested accused is currently underway.
