A mugger allegedly stabbed a pedestrian repeatedly during a mugging attempt under metro rail station in the capital’s Karwan Bazar.
However, despite being severely injured in the attack, the victim did not let the mugger escape and was seen beating up the perpetrator even while injured.
The incident took place under Karwan Bazar Metro Rail Station at around 3pm on Thursday. The names and identities of victim and alleged mugger could not immediately be ascertained.
According to eyewitnesses, a man stabbed the pedestrian during mugging attempt, leaving him critically injured. Despite his injuries, the victim managed to grab the attacker. Onlookers nearby then came forward, beat up the man, and handed him over to the police.
A video recorded on a mobile phone shows a blood-stained man beating another individual. The man delivering beating was drenched in blood, had a stab wound on his back, and wore a torn shirt.
Two to three other bystanders were also seen beating the alleged mugger, who was wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
Confirming the incident, Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said, “I will not call him a mugger; the person who was beaten is a drug addict. We have detained that drug addict in connection with this incident. The victim has been sent to hospital.”
The OC added, “Initially, it is suspected that the stabbing occurred following an altercation. Names and identities have not yet been obtained. Details will be informed later.”
