Police have arrested 28-year-old Sanjay Kumar Das in Meherpur on charges of abusing and making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on social media out of frustration over frequent load shedding.
He was detained from Gorpukur area of the town on Friday night. Sanjay Kumar Das is the son of Hiran Kumar Das, a resident of Govipur village in Meherpur Sadar upazila.
According to police sources, Sanjay posted a video from his personal Facebook profile on Friday night.
In the video, alongside expressing anger over frequent load shedding, he was seen abusing and making derogatory comments about the prime minister.
The police took notice after the video spread across social media, leading to a police operation that resulted in his detention.
Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station, confirmed that Sanjay was detained for posting derogatory remarks about the prime minister on social media.
The OC added that Sanjay had a pre-existing case against him and was shown arrested in connection with that case.
