Bir Bahadur, wife sued on corruption charges

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday filed two separate cases against former CHT Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing and his wife Mehla Prue on charges of amassing illegal wealth and making suspicious transactions.

ACC official Anik Barua Babu said they filed the cases after investigation into the corruption allegations.

The ACC during its investigation found that Bir Bahadur has illegally acquired Tk 9.17 crore and made suspicious transactions of Tk 58.40 crore through his 13 bank accounts.

Of the total transactions, he deposited over Tk 32.16 crore to those accounts and withdrew over Tk 26.24 crore from there.

Besides, the ACC also found ownership of illegal wealth worth nearly Tk 9.18 crore.

Besides, the anti-graft watchdog found that Mehla Prue amassed illegal wealth worth about Tk 9.35 crore in connivance with her husband.

She also made suspicious transactions of over Tk 15.58 crore through her six bank accounts.
