The Bangladesh Semiconductor Industry Association (BSIA) plans to train 3,500 university graduates in seven specialised areas of semiconductor technology over the next two years, aiming to build industry-ready skills for jobs in Bangladesh and overseas.
The initiative began on Tuesday with a three-month semiconductor testing course for 25 graduates at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) campus in Banani, Dhaka, under the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP).
BSIA President and BSIA-SICIP Program Standing Committee Chairman M A Jabbar urged participants to follow developments in the global semiconductor industry and build skills for employment or entrepreneurship.
“You need to study seriously, understand how the semiconductor industry is evolving globally, and work hard to build your capabilities,” Jabbar said.
“With the right skills and dedication, you can pursue opportunities in both employment and entrepreneurship.”
SICIP Joint Secretary Mynul Hossain highlighted growing opportunities in the global semiconductor industry and urged participants to make effective use of the government-funded training.
According to a BSIA press release, the association also signed a memorandum of understanding with iTest Bangladesh to conduct the course. Jabbar and iTest Bangladesh Director Munir Ahmed signed the agreement.
SICIP Deputy Secretary Mohammad Afzal Hossain, Ahmed and BRAC University Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Professor Hasan Uz Zaman also spoke, while BSIA-SICIP Chief Coordinator Rashidul Hassan outlined the training objectives.
Participants Sraboni Pal Dipi and Kamrul Ahsan shared their expectations from the course.
University faculty, BSIA members and industry representatives also attended and visited the Semiconductor Testing Training Laboratory to see the facilities and equipment established for the training.
