An inmate who escaped from Khulna District Jail (Old) by scaling the prison wall was rearrested about three hours later with the help of police.
The prisoner, identified as Emon Majhi, fled the correctional facility after 4pm on Thursday, triggering an immediate search operation by prison authorities and law enforcement agencies.
Following the escape, jail officials launched a manhunt, focusing on the Sachibunia area where Emon lived.
A team of prison guards searched the area based on information about his residence and, with help from local residents, traced and detained him.
Khulna Jail Superintendent Md Abu Sayem said the authorities informed senior officials and law enforcement agencies immediately after the escape was detected to coordinate the search operation.
During preliminary interrogation, Emon reportedly said he escaped due to discomfort caused by withdrawal symptoms from drug addiction. He also said he wanted to meet his mother.
Emon had been in jail since 13 June after police arrested him in a theft case filed with Sonadanga Police Station in Khulna.
Following his rearrest, prison authorities filed a case with Khulna Sadar Police Station over his escape.
