A Dhaka court has deferred the hearing on charge framing against British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, daughter of Sheikh Rehana and niece of ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in a flat fraud case filed over alleged irregularities involving an apartment in Gulshan-2.

After a hearing on Wednesday, Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun fixed June 28 for the next hearing.

Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Mir Ahmed Ali Salam confirmed the development. He said the hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, but the judge deferred it as he was busy with other cases.

Earlier, on 8 April, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz transferred the case to Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 after finding it ready for trial.

On 18 February, the court accepted the chargesheet and issued arrest warrants against the accused.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case on 15 April last year against Rizwana Siddiq, former RAJUK Assistant Legal Adviser Shah Md Khasruzzaman and former Assistant Legal Adviser-1 Sardar Mosharraf Hossain over allegations of obtaining a flat from Eastern Housing Limited in Gulshan through illegal benefits.

According to the allegations, the accused colluded with each other and abused their power to illegally occupy and later register the Gulshan-2 flat of Eastern Housing Limited without making any payment. Following the case, accused Shah Khasruzzaman filed a writ petition with the High Court in July this year seeking a stay on the investigation.

The High Court stayed the investigation against him for three months. Later, when the ACC moved the chamber court, it received a “no order” ruling.

After completing the investigation on 11 December, the ACC submitted the charge sheet against Tulip Rizwana Siddiq and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain.
