Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu on has asserted that those who have illegally acquired land by exploiting fishermen over the past 17 years will no longer be granted any opportunities.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled ‘Finalising the Draft of the Government Waterbody Act, 2026,’ organised by the Ministry of Land at the Sunamganj Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.
He stated that the government, led by Tarique Rahman, remains vocal in protecting the rights of both fishermen and farmers. He further emphasised that the government is determined to ensure a favourable environment for agriculture and to increase the production of fish resources, alongside the leasing of waterbodies (Jalmahals) to genuine fishermen.
Minister Minu also urged patriotic citizens to remain vigilant so that no extremists can create chaos in the country. He expressed a firm commitment to building a safe Bangladesh through honesty and dedication.
The workshop was attended by several special guests, including State Minister for Land Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Kalim Uddin Ahmed Milon (MP, Sunamganj-5), Mohammad Kawsar Ahmed (MP, Sunamganj-3), Nurul Islam (MP, Sunamganj-4), and Kamruzzaman Kamrul (MP, Sunamganj-1).
Other high-level officials in attendance included A.J.M. Salahuddin Nagari, Chairman of the Land Reform Board; Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet (Additional Secretary); A S M Saleh Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Land; and Mohammad Elias Mia, the Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj.
Officials from various government departments were also present at the event.
