Mohammad Saifuddin has been ruled out of Bangladesh’s Asian Games campaign with a right hamstring injury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Monday.
Saifuddin felt discomfort while bowling in training on September 19 and was sent for further assessment. An MRI later confirmed the injury, according to national team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan.
“Saifuddin complained of pain in his right hamstring while bowling during the practice session on 19 September. Following a physical examination and MRI, the injury was confirmed,” Bayjedul said in a BCB media release.
The 29-year-old will need about three weeks of rehabilitation, effectively ending his hopes of featuring in Bangladesh’s Asiad campaign in Japan.
The BCB has informed the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) about Saifuddin’s unavailability and will seek the Games authority’s approval for his replacement.
Bangladesh are due to fly to Japan on September 24 and will enter the cricket competition directly in the quarter-finals on September 29.
