The submission of investigation report in the case filed over the alleged murder of film actor Salman Shah has been deferred once again.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana’s court set 9 April as the new date for submitting the report on Sunday. The court fixed the new date after the investigation officer failed to submit the report within the previously scheduled timeframe.
Earlier, a deadline of 13 January had been set as the report was not submitted by 7 December last year. However, the time has been extended again as the report remained pending.
According to sources, the investigation officer, Inspector Atiqul Islam Khandaker of Ramna Model Police Station, could not prepare the report within the stipulated time.
Salman Shah died mysteriously on 6 September 1996, at the age of 25. Although the incident was long classified as an unnatural death, his family has consistently alleged that he was murdered, claiming that previous investigations failed to uncover the truth.
A murder case was eventually filed 29 years after the incident. Salman Shah’s maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, filed the case at Ramna Police Station on 21 October last year.
The case was filed under sections 302/34 of the Penal Code against 11 individuals. The primary accused is the late actor’s former wife, Samira Huq.
Other accused include producer Aziz Mohammad Bhai, actor Don, former mother-in-law Latifa Huq Lucy, David, Javed, Faruq, Ruby of Mayfair Beauty Centre, Abdus Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed Farhad.
The case is currently under investigation, and the court will determine the next legal steps once the investigation report is submitted.
