A clay sculptural poster created for the Bangladeshi film ‘Kagoj’ has been preserved at the Bangladesh Film Archive, according to cultural and film sources.
The poster, made entirely from clay and terracotta, was originally produced as part of the film’s promotional campaign. Unlike conventional printed or digitally designed posters commonly used in Bangladeshi cinema, this artwork was handcrafted in relief, giving it the appearance of a three-dimensional installation rather than a flat visual advertisement.
Sources familiar with the project state that the poster was created between 2022 and 2023. Following its public presentation, it drew attention for its unconventional medium and artistic approach. Recognising its cultural and artistic value, the national archive selected it for preservation.
Film promotion in Bangladesh typically relies on photography-based posters or digital graphics, making the use of clay a rare practice in contemporary publicity. Cultural observers note that the initiative represents an effort to merge traditional craft techniques with modern cinematic promotion.
The preservation of this clay poster underscores ongoing discussions about alternative approaches to film promotion and the recognition of promotional materials as standalone cultural artefacts.
