The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday urged people not to pay heed to rumours and misinformation circulating on social media about the postponement of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and referendum.

In a press release signed on Sunday by Election Commission Public Relations Wing Director Ruhul Amin Mallik, the commission said misleading and propagandist information is being spread on social media about the postponement of the upcoming parliamentary election and referendum.

Clarifying its position, the Election Commission said the 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum will be held on 12 February in 299 constituencies across the country, excluding Sherpur-3.

The commission said voting in the Sherpur-3 constituency, covering Sreebardi and Jhenaigati, has been postponed due to the death of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Nuruzzaman Badal.
