No bias towards a political party will be tolerated: Home adviser

Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that honesty, competence, and professionalism will be the main strength of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Therefore, officials and law enforcement personnel assigned election duties must perform their duties with one hundred percent honesty, competence, and professionalism. Government employees are not members of any political party; they are salaried employees of the state appointed with the tax money of the general public.

Hence, no minimum bias or biased behaviour towards any political party will be tolerated, he said.

The advisor made these remarks as the chief guest at an exchange of views meeting on law and order, organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner’s Office, aimed at conducting the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum smoothly, held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh, Dhaka, on Thursday.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nasimul Gani, presided over the event. Special guests who spoke included IGP Baharul BPM, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Sazzat Ali, and Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharafuddin Ahmed.

DIG of Dhaka Range, Rezaul Karim Mollik, delivered the welcome speech at the exchange of views meeting.

The chief guest said that everyone must perform their duties with complete impartiality in the national election. They must not get involved in implementing any personal, party, or political agenda.

“Everyone must work prioritising law, regulations, public security, public service, and public welfare in the election. The adviser said that if anyone is found to be working in favour of any candidate or implementing any party agenda, the government will show not the slightest leniency in taking departmental and strict legal action against them. He said that one must completely refrain from and ensure abstaining from accepting any kind of money or other benefits from candidates or their representatives in the election. Not even any kind of food can be accepted,” he said.

The adviser said that the democratic future of the country’s people will be determined through the national election. “If the election is not transparent, a dark future may descend upon the nation. Therefore, the responsibility, conduct, and role of the concerned officials and law enforcement agencies in the national election are extremely important. At this time, the advisor expressed optimism, saying that with everyone’s cooperation, such a standard will be set in the upcoming national election that will be praised not only in the country but also in the international arena.”

Addressing the officials and law enforcement personnel assigned election duties, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that no one should be allowed to violate the law in the election. If anyone does something illegal, they must be brought under the law.

The adviser said that for law enforcement and compliance with the electoral code of conduct, the “Representation of the People Order (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025” and the “Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2025”, circulars issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Election Commission’s instructions must be thoroughly internalised and followed. Impartiality must be demonstrated in words, actions, conduct, announcements, and implementation.

District Commissioners, Police Superintendents, Upazila Executive Officers, Regional/District/Upazila Election Officers, and Officers-in-Charge of police stations from all districts of Dhaka Division, and all Additional Police Commissioners, Joint Police Commissioners, Deputy Police Commissioners, and Officers-in-Charge of police stations of Dhaka Metropolitan Police participated in the exchange of views meeting.
