BNP will observe the 90th birth anniversary of its founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman with a two-day programme beginning 19 January.
The announcement was made by BNP Senior Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Saturday.
He said party leaders and activists from all levels, including members of the BNP National Standing Committee, will lay wreaths and offer Fatiha at the mausoleum of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar at 11am.
He said the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh will organise a medical camp as part of the birth anniversary programmes.
A discussion meeting will be held at 11am on 20 January at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh auditorium in Kakrail, where senior BNP leaders and prominent national figures are expected to speak.
He said BNP flags will be hoisted at the party’s central office and all party offices across the country on 19 January.
He added that discussion meetings and dua mahfils will also be organised by BNP and its allied bodies at district, metropolitan, upazila and thana levels nationwide.
He said posters have been prepared for the occasion and special supplements will be published in several national newspapers on 19 January.
Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman is remembered as the proclaimer of Bangladesh’s independence, an advocate of multi-party democracy and an architect of modern Bangladesh, he said.
