Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has shared photocards on social media to campaign for a “Yes” vote in the upcoming referendum scheduled for 12 February.
The chief adviser posted the campaign materials on his official Facebook page and X handle around 11am on Saturday. The text on the photocards reads – “Referendum 2026 – Clear the way for the country to move forward quickly; stamp Yes.”
According to the chief adviser’s press wing, the photocard campaign has been active since 11 January and is set to continue until Sunday. The ongoing initiative aims to increase public awareness and encourage the active participation of citizens in the voting process.
In addition to the chief adviser’s digital outreach, other advisers are campaigning for a “Yes” vote at various events across the country, and the government is officially promoting the “Yes” campaign.
Meanwhile, political party leaders and candidates are simultaneously conducting campaigns for the referendum alongside their activities for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The referendum will require voters to provide a single ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ opinion on four primary reform areas.
Referendum
The formation of the caretaker government, the Election Commission, and other constitutional bodies in accordance with the processes outlined in the July Charter.
The establishment of a two-house parliament, including a 100-member Upper House formed based on the proportion of votes received by political parties. Approval from majority of the Upper House would be required for any constitutional amendments.
The implementation of 30 proposals from the July Charter upon which political parties have reached a consensus.
These include increasing women’s representation in parliament, electing the Deputy Speaker and parliamentary committee chairs from the opposition, limiting the term of prime minister, and increasing the powers of the President.
This section also covers the expansion of fundamental rights, judicial independence, and local government reforms, which winning parties in the next election will be mandated to implement.
The implementation of other reforms described in the July Charter as per the commitments of the political parties.
Voters will express their views on all four points through a single question on the day of the referendum.
