Bangladesh began showcasing its apparel and jute products on Tuesday at the three-day Global Sourcing Expo Melbourne 2025 to promote national exports and deepen market outreach in Australia. Twelve Bangladeshi firms are participating at the expo, according to a media release.
The country’s pavilion—coordinated by the Bangladesh High Commission in Australia—features eleven ready-made garment (RMG) producers funded by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), alongside one jute-products institution.
High Commissioner F M Borhan Uddin inaugurated Bangladesh’s participation at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. He was joined by Joint Secretary Nahid Afroz of the Commerce Ministry; Mahmudul Hasan, director (Fairs and Exhibitions) of the EPB; and Commercial Counsellor Rony Chakma.
The Global Sourcing Expo, held twice each year in Sydney and Melbourne, has brought together around 600 producers and suppliers from 20 countries. Officials said the platform plays a crucial role in helping importers, exporters and manufacturers expand market access, build networks and explore sourcing opportunities.
Sources noted the growing importance of the Australian market for Bangladesh, with bilateral trade now at A$5 billion. Ready-made garments dominate Bangladesh’s exports to Australia, accounting for about 93 percent of total shipments. Bangladesh currently ranks as Australia’s 23rd largest trading partner.
The expo will continue through Thursday, offering Bangladeshi firms an opportunity to deepen engagement with international buyers and strengthen their foothold in a high-value market.
