A portion of the ceiling plaster collapsed in a room of Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall at Dhaka University on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred around 9:25am in Room 349 of the hall’s main building.
Although no one was injured, the collapse sparked panic among students.
Syed Zahed Iqbal, a resident of the room, said, “I narrowly escaped. I was getting ready for class when I turned around and saw the ceiling fall. I had just been standing in the spot where the debris landed moments before. If I had moved a bit differently, it could have been a serious accident.”
Another hall resident, Ismail Nahid, said, “These kinds of incidents happen all the time. No one seems to take action until a major accident occurs.”
On a Facebook group for DU hall residents, Hasan Jamil noted that Room 330 faces a similar problem. “Pieces of the ceiling are falling every day,” he wrote.
