In the fast-paced world of materials engineering, where breakthroughs in functional materials are unlocking doors to cutting-edge tech like advanced sensors and memory devices, Dr Rifat Mahbub is making quite a name for himself.
His work centres on spin crossover materials, fascinating compounds that can switch between different properties (electrical, magnetic, optical) when triggered by temperature or strain. They’re promising for everything from touch sensors to adaptive materials and memory tech.
One standout part of his PhD research looked at how conductivity varies between nanoparticle and nanorod forms of these spin crossover compounds. Using sophisticated tools, he connected those differences to unique crystal structures. It was a real eye-opener, shedding light on how shape influences electrical flow and making it easier to weave these materials into tiny devices.
He’s now stepped into the corporate world as a module development engineer at Intel Corporation. Tweaking advanced lithography processes, his core research keeps rippling through both academic circles and practical applications in materials science.
