The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) announced on Tuesday that 97.79 per cent of garment factories in Dhaka and Chattogram have cleared Eid bonus payments for their workers.
According to a press release issued by the trade body, a total of 2,080 factories out of 2,127 operational units in these two regions have disbursed the bonuses. The data shows that there are currently 1,785 operational factories in Dhaka and 342 in Chattogram.
In terms of wage compliance, 2,104 factories, representing 98.92 per cent of the total, have already paid salaries for the month of February. This figure includes 1,767 factories located in Dhaka and 337 in Chattogram.
Specifically regarding the Eid bonus, 1,753 units in Dhaka and 327 in Chattogram have fulfilled the payment requirements.
Furthermore, the BGMEA reported that 870 factories, or 40.90 per cent of the total, are set to provide advance salaries for the month of March. Of these factories, 840 are situated in Dhaka, while 30 factories are based in Chattogram.
