Authorities have seized 910 cartons of cigarettes and 428 units of imported beauty cream, which are prohibited items, from three passengers arriving from Abu Dhabi at Shah Amanat International Airport.
According to a press release issued Monday, the flight, operated by US-Bangla Airlines, landed at 5:55am on Sunday.
After its arrival, a joint team comprising Airport NSI, Customs Intelligence and the airport customs division carried out a search operation.
During the inspection, the contraband goods were recovered from the luggage of three passengers identified as Mohammad Sohel of Fatikchhari, Chattogram; Mohammad Ullah of Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar; and Mohammad Sajjad Hossain of Chattogram.
Officials estimated the value of the seized cigarettes at approximately Tk18.2 lakh.
The confiscated items have been handed over to the Chattogram Custom House for further legal action.
The three passengers were released after being verbally warned by NSI and customs officials.
Authorities said surveillance by Airport NSI, airport customs, Customs Intelligence and airport authorities will continue to prevent the smuggling of banned goods and curb revenue evasion.
