Five more children have died with symptoms consistent with measles, taking Bangladesh’s combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 772, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest deaths were recorded in the 24 hours until 8am on Wednesday and have been classified as suspected measles fatalities by the health authorities.
With the new figures, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 676, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remain at 95.
During the same period, 920 new suspected measles cases were reported, raising the nationwide total to 114,164.
The DGHS also recorded 172 new laboratory-confirmed cases, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 13,907.
Since March 15, a total of 96,887 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country, according to DGHS data.
Of them, 93,260 patients have recovered.
