Singapore authorities have released the findings of their investigation into the death of Assamese music star Zubeen Garg, concluding that there was no foul play involved.
According to a report cited by The Straits Times, the singer died after drowning while swimming near Lazarus Island on September 19 last year. Police confirmed that earlier speculation about a scuba diving accident was incorrect, stating that Garg was not diving at the time of the incident.
During a court hearing, Assistant Superintendent David Lim of the Singapore Police Coast Guard said Garg was heavily intoxicated while in the water. Witnesses told investigators they saw him attempting to swim back to a yacht before becoming visibly weak and floating face down.
He was quickly pulled from the water and taken back to the yacht, where CPR was administered. Despite emergency efforts, he could not be revived. Investigators also noted that Garg had pre-existing medical conditions, including high blood pressure and epilepsy, with his most recent seizure recorded in 2024.
Police have confirmed that no criminal liability has been established and the case has been closed as an accidental death.
