To spread festive cheer among city residents, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has taken the initiative to organise Eid jamaat, an Eid procession, and a three-day Eid fair on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
The decision was taken at a meeting on Thursday morning at the DNCC Nagar Bhaban, chaired by Administrator Mohammad Ejaz, regarding the arrangements for the Eid fair.
According to the meeting, the main Eid jamaat for Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at the old trade fair ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The three-day Eid fair will also take place at the same venue.
The fair will feature various rides for children, food stalls, and booths selling festival-themed products.
Following the Eid jamaat, an Eid procession will begin from the Eidgah premises.
The procession will move along the Agargaon main road, cross the Khamarbari intersection, and conclude at the south plaza area in front of the National Parliament Building on Manik Mia Avenue.
A cultural programme will be held on Manik Mia Avenue after the procession. Traditional Eid delicacies will also be arranged for participants.
Representatives from different religions and ethnic communities will join the Eid procession.
More than a hundred band parties, horse carriages and bullock carts will take part. Colourful banners and festoons will be used to add vibrancy to the procession.
Additionally, a puppet show based on Mughal and Sultanate-era history will be featured at the event.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman, the regional executive officer of Region-5, and heads of all DNCC departments were present at the meeting.
