Bangladesh and France have pledged to expand their partnership, focusing on trade, investment, defence, aviation, education, renewable energy, technology, and human capital development.
The commitment came during a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, where French Ambassador Jean‑Marc Sere‑Charlet paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir.
The envoy congratulated Kobir on assuming office and discussed ways to strengthen the longstanding ties between the two countries.
Kobir welcomed France’s continued support for Bangladesh’s socio‑economic progress, democratic transition, and institutional reforms, and expressed Dhaka’s interest in broadening cooperation in areas such as culture, education, and defence.
He encouraged greater French investment in Bangladesh, pointing to opportunities in infrastructure, renewable energy, space, technology, and pharmaceuticals.
The state minister also stressed the need to create more legal and regular labour mobility between the two countries, reaffirming Bangladesh’s zero‑tolerance stance on irregular migration and human trafficking.
Ambassador Sere‑Charlet assured France’s readiness to deepen cooperation in all areas of mutual interest and praised Bangladesh’s efforts toward democratic reforms.
The two sides also exchanged views on priorities for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, as well as regional and global issues including climate change and multilateral cooperation. Both reiterated their commitment to working together in international forums.
Kobir thanked France for its humanitarian support for the 1.3 million Rohingyas living in Bangladesh. Both sides expressed readiness to cooperate toward their safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation.
The meeting ended with confidence that stronger engagement and expanded cooperation would further advance Bangladesh‑France relations.
