Police arrested a young man with a large number of posters and leaflets of a banned organisation during a raid in the Banani area of the capital early Saturday.
The arrested man was identified as Md Ashik Tapedar, 24.
According to Banani Police Station, a team of police conducted a special drive in the Dhaka-Mymensingh Road area opposite the Naval Headquarters following a tip-off.
During the operation, police arrested Ashik Tapedar red-handed with posters and leaflets of the banned organisation.
Police said the suspect admitted during primary interrogation that he and his associates were preparing to distribute the materials ahead of 17 May, marking Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming day, with the intention of creating unrest.
For that purpose, they had been moving around the area and nearby locations before dawn, police added.
Law enforcement officials said legal action against the arrested man was underway.
