Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Shofiqul Islam Khan has stated that the authorities are working day and night to bring relief to the lives of city dwellers.
He made these remarks on Sunday following an inspection of the Korail slum, where he emphasized that officials are operating at the field level to ensure visible results.
“We are constantly working from our position of responsibility and accountability so that the people can live with some ease,” the Administrator said.
“We do not sit in the comfortable chairs of the City Corporation all day. We are working at the field level and are determined to make the results of our work visible”.
Addressing the issue of mosquito control, Khan noted that a monitoring cell has been established and activities have commenced according to a specific plan. He assured residents that the benefits of these measures would be apparent within a short time.
He further explained that initiatives are being taken to repair roads, protect lakes, and build a liveable urban environment to fulfill electoral pledges.
“We are working tirelessly to meet the expectations of the people who voted for us with hope and trust,” he added.
During his visit to the Korail slum, the Administrator also inspected the ongoing data collection process for the distribution of family cards. He clarified that eligible individuals will receive these cards free of charge and that funds will be sent directly to their accounts. In this regard, he urged the public not to pay any bribes to anyone.
The Administrator also mentioned that lakes and footpaths in the area are being monitored. He stated that, under the directives of the prime minister, a mosquito-free environment and the removal of illegal occupations from footpaths would be ensured in phases.
The inspection was attended by State Minister for Local Government Mir Shah Alam. Other high-ranking officials present included Local Government Division Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, Prime Minister’s Private Secretary-2 Md Mehedul Islam, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, and Chief Engineer Brigadier General Syed Rokibul Hasan, along with various DNCC departmental heads.
