Police have arrested a woman on charges of forging the signature of Mir Shahe Alam, state minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, on a job application.
The application also allegedly contained the forged signatures of two other officials, including the chief engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).
The incident took place on Tuesday at the chief engineer’s office at the LGED headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, after which police took her into custody.
Following a case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station by Md Mofazzal Hossain, assistant engineer (building repair) of LGED, against the accused, Taslima Parvin, she was sent to prison through a court order.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Taslima arrived around 3:40pm on Tuesday with an application titled “Application for job in project coordinator/monitoring or related position in any project” addressed to the chief engineer of LGED and the assistant engineer of Eastern Supply Engineering Department.
Md Jamal Hossain, an office assistant of LKSS at LGED, received the application and presented it to the chief engineer.
The application contained recommendations and signatures purportedly belonging to State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, LGED Chief Engineer (Grade-1) Md Belal Hossain, and the manager of LKSS.
However, the chief engineer grew suspicious upon inspecting his official seal and signature on the document.
He photographed the application and sent it to the state minister to verify whether he had signed it, and Shahe Alam confirmed that the signature was not his.
When the chief engineer subsequently showed the application to the LKSS manager, he also confirmed that the signature was not his own.
The FIR stated that when questioned in front of present officials, Taslima admitted to submitting the application with forged signatures of the three officials.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Sharif Mia confirmed the matter to TIMES of Bangladesh.
A case has been registered under Sections 465, 467, 468, 471, and 420 of the Penal Code.
These sections penalise offences including forgery, forging valuable security or official seals, forgery for the purpose of cheating, using a forged document as genuine, and cheating to dishonestly induce the delivery of property.
