Poland struck deep into stoppage time to deny Nigeria victory in a 2-2 international friendly draw at Stadion PGE Narodowy in Warsaw on Wednesday. Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu scored for the Super Eagles, but Kacper Potulski and Przemysław Wisniewski earned Poland a share of the spoils with goals either side of the interval.
Both nations entered the match after failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Nigeria started positively and gradually gained control of possession. The visitors moved the ball quickly through midfield and created the better openings during the first half.
Their pressure brought a reward in the 23rd minute. Moffi finished calmly after a well-worked attacking move to put Nigeria ahead. Poland struggled to create clear chances for much of the opening period, but they found a route back into the contest just before the break. Potulski scored from close range in stoppage time to level the match at 1-1.
Nigeria coach Eric Chelle reshaped his side after halftime. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Raphael Onyedika, Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi all entered the game as the Super Eagles looked for greater intensity and control.
The changes worked. Nigeria dominated long stretches of the second half and pinned Poland inside their own half. Their attacking pressure finally produced a decisive moment in the 76th minute when VAR identified a handball inside the penalty area.
Onuachu stepped forward and converted the resulting penalty a minute later. The striker kept his composure and sent Nigeria back in front at 2-1.
Nigeria looked set to secure only their second victory over Poland after beating them 1-0 in Wroclaw in March 2018. The Super Eagles controlled much of the second half and appeared on course for a morale-boosting result.
Poland refused to accept defeat. The hosts pushed numbers forward during stoppage time and found an equaliser with virtually the final kick of the match. Defender Wisniewski produced the finish that made it 2-2 and rescued the result for the home side.
Nigeria left Warsaw without the win they wanted, but the performance offered encouragement. Chelle’s substitutions added energy, the attack created chances, and several squad players made strong cases for greater involvement in future internationals.
