Nutrition experts caution that tracking calories by itself doesn’t guarantee healthy weight management. Other factors such as when meals are eaten, how quickly food is consumed, and the quality of ingredients play an equally important role.

Studies suggest that front‑loading calories earlier in the day, eating at a slower pace, and choosing whole, minimally processed foods can help the body regulate energy more effectively, BBC reports.

Digestion, chewing habits, and even differences in gut microbiomes influence how calories are absorbed and used.

Sarah Berry, a nutrition professor at King’s College London, emphasises that people respond to food in highly individual ways. Her advice is to focus on “eating smarter” rather than relying solely on calorie math.

To support long‑term health, specialists recommend a balanced diet rich in fiber, fruits, and vegetables, while limiting added sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats.

Pairing these choices with mindful eating practices can make a lasting difference.
