Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, a capital market–listed technology giant and Superbrand, continues to manufacture world-class, environment-friendly, innovative and state-of-the-art technology products while ensuring strong corporate governance through discipline, transparency and accountability in overall management and financial reporting.
As a result of these practices, Walton has achieved the ICSB National Award for Corporate Governance Excellence for five consecutive times and the ICMAB Best Corporate Award for four consecutive times, according to a press release.
To mark the achievements, Walton organised a grand event titled “Celebrating Corporate Award Achievements” at its Corporate Office in Bashundhara, Dhaka, on Saturday.
Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Md Habibur Rahman attended the celebration as the chief guest, while chairman of the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) Professor Abu Ahmed was present as the special guest.
Among others, Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC Vice-Chairman S M Ashraful Alam, Managing Director S M Mahbubul Alam and other senior officials of the company were present at the event. Walton Hi-Tech’s Deputy Managing Director and Company Secretary Md Rafiqul Islam, FCS, delivered the welcome speech.
Congratulating Walton on receiving corporate recognitions from different professional institutions, Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Dr Md Habibur Rahman said that in terms of product quality, state-of-the-art technology and affordable pricing, Walton is ahead of many global brands.
He said Walton’s contribution to Bangladesh’s economy is significant, noting that by breaking the dominance of foreign brands, the company has reduced import dependency and is now earning a substantial amount of foreign currency through exports to many countries.
He also expressed optimism that Walton will be able to establish a strong position in the global market by producing and exporting AI and IoT-based high-tech products.
Speaking at the event, ICB Chairman Professor Abu Ahmed said Walton’s factory is well managed, with an extensive workforce and production capacity.
He noted that even 15 years ago the electronics market in Bangladesh was dominated by foreign brands, but Walton has changed that scenario by successfully competing with them and achieving market leadership.
He said Walton continues to expand its capacity through regular investment and has set an example that Bangladesh can produce high-tech products. To make the country’s economic activities more dynamic and prosperous, he emphasised the need for supportive government policies and tax incentives for fundamentally strong companies like Walton.
Walton Hi-Tech Managing Director S M Mahbubul Alam said the company follows proper compliance across all areas, including factory establishment, production processes, workplace management, financial reporting, tax payment and corporate governance.
He said Walton is one of the leading companies in South Asia in practising good corporate governance and was honoured with the SAFA Gold Award.
He also said Walton’s Mold & Die Factory Complex has achieved LEED Platinum Certification as an environmentally friendly factory, awarded by the US Green Building Council based on sustainable development practices, efficient use of electricity, fuel and water, and eco-friendly factory operations.
He added that Walton has received the Excellence in Investment Award 2025 and the SDG Brand Champion Award–2025 for its sustainable clean-energy initiatives.
He further said Walton has installed the country’s largest floating solar power project at its factory premises and has taken the initiative to establish Bangladesh’s first lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant, where modern green-technology machinery is being installed to ensure environmental protection.
He expressed the expectation that once the plant becomes operational, Bangladesh’s dependence on imported lithium-ion batteries will be significantly reduced.
In his closing remarks, Walton Hi-Tech Vice-Chairman S M Ashraful Alam said Walton never compromises on compliance and maintains proper standards in workplace practices, production, financial reporting and tax payments.
As recognition of these efforts, Walton has received Best Corporate Award honours from professional institutions including ICAB, ICSB and ICMAB.
The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony marking Walton’s success in achieving the ICSB National Award for Corporate Governance Excellence for five consecutive times and the ICMAB Best Corporate Award for four consecutive times.
