Pohel Chakma, the sole independent candidate for constituency No 299, has alleged that voters were obstructed and beaten up by BNP activists at the Kashkhali Government Primary School polling centre in Ghagra Union, Kaukhali Upazila, Rangamati district.
Pohel Chakma, the only independent candidate, filed the complaint mentioning the names of BNP activists involved in the beating.
When contacted over mobile phone, independent candidate Chakma said, “Five voters were beaten by BNP workers on their way to cast votes at the Kashkhali Government Primary School centre in Ghagra Union. Upon hearing that the five victims of the beating intended to vote for the football symbol, they were first obstructed. Later, BNP leaders beat the voters to prevent them from going to the centre.”
The injured were Thui Kroe Marma, Ruishima Marma, Chadradhan Chakma, Pratimoy Chakma, and Mika Chakma, among others.
She named the BNP activists: Md Iqbal, Md Belal, Md Shahabuddin, Md Rashed (1), Md. Rashed (2), and Md. Tofayel.
“I seek the administration’s intervention in this matter,” she said.
When contacted regarding this, Rangamati Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdur Rakeeb said, “A clash between two sides occurred in Kaukhali upazila. Information has been received about five people being injured. However, accurate information about who was beating whom has not been confirmed. Those who were injured received primary treatment at the upazila health complex,” informed Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdur Rakib.
