A case has been filed in connection with an attack on former lawmaker Md Golam Sarwar Hiru in Barguna. The case was lodged at Patharghata Police Station under the Speedy Trial Act on Tuesday night.
According to police, Sarwar was attacked in front of his home in Ward 9 of Patharghata municipality on Monday afternoon.
The case names 10 accused, including former Patharghata municipal Chhatra Dal organising secretary Md Jasim Shikdar alias Jasim; Patharghata upazila Swechchhasebak Dal member Enamul Haque alias Imu; upazila Sramik Dal president Kamal Hossain alias Gas Kamal; BNP general secretary of Ward 9 Dulal Hossain alias Dockyard Dulal; Chhatra Dal general secretary of the same ward Imam Hossain; and upazila Jubo Dal joint convener Saiful Islam alias Jamal.
Others named are Azad alias Yaba Azad, Md Rana Shikdar, Md Zakaria, and Sohel. In addition, 10–15 unidentified individuals have been accused.
Patharghata Police Station’s officer-in-charge Mongchenla said the case was recorded under sections 4 and 5 of the Speedy Trial Act, along with Penal Code sections 307, 323, 325, 427, and 506. Operations are underway to arrest the accused.
According to the case statement, around 3pm on Monday a group armed with weapons stormed Sarwar’s house and carried out the attack, leaving him seriously injured. He was rescued and admitted to Patharghata Upazila Health Complex.
The FIR notes that the attack was premeditated, carried out with iron rods and other weapons. The victim suffered severe injuries to multiple parts of his body. His motorcycle was also vandalised, causing an estimated loss of Tk2,00,000.
