Ulkasemi VLSI Training Institute (UVTI) has launched training programmes to develop semiconductor engineers in Bangladesh, addressing a shortage of skilled professionals in the sector.
The institute, described by officials as the largest semiconductor training facility in the country, focuses on very large-scale integration (VLSI) skills, it said in a press release.
The courses are built around practical, industry-oriented training covering register transfer level, design verification, physical design, layout for digital and analogue systems, and design for testability.
Each course runs for about three months, five days a week, with 240 hours of training, which can extend to 480 hours depending on the module.
Around 80 to 90 per cent of the training involves hands-on use of industry-standard electronic design automation tools, led by experienced engineers.
UVTI has launched courses on integrated circuit mask design and physical design and plans to introduce advanced modules such as analogue design and design verification.
The institute can train up to 150 students at a time and will provide internationally recognised certificates after completion.
Industry stakeholders said university education provides basic knowledge, but specialised training is required for direct entry into semiconductor design roles.
They said demand for skilled engineers is rising, with high-paying job opportunities in the sector expected to grow threefold over the next five years.
