The United States has again denied Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas a visa to attend next week’s UN General Assembly in New York, AFP reports, citing a source familiar with the decision.
It is the second year in a row Abbas has been barred from travelling to the annual session. Last year, he addressed the assembly remotely after member states approved his participation by video.
The refusal coincides with a State Department move to extend visa restrictions on Palestinian Authority officials and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization, accusing them of failing to implement reforms and obstructing peace efforts.
