In a significant shift toward specialized Palestinian governance, a newly appointed technocratic administration is set to take the reins in Gaza as part of a transitional phase aimed at ending the protracted conflict.
The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, comprised of 15 Palestinian leaders, has been established to provide a stable, non-partisan governing body during this critical period. This move, framed as the second phase of a comprehensive 20-point peace plan, places the responsibility of rebuilding and administration into the hands of seasoned experts.
The technocratic committee will be led by Ali Shaath, a former Palestinian deputy minister for planning who brings significant administrative experience to the role.
This governing body will operate under the oversight of a US-led “Board of Peace” chaired by Donald Trump, with former UN Middle East peace coordinator Nickolay Mladenov serving as the High Representative to guide the transition. US officials have characterized these leaders as being “unwaveringly committed” to a peaceful future for the enclave.
Key administrative portfolios within the technocratic government have been assigned to specialists across various sectors to address the immediate needs of the population.
Omar Shamali will oversee communications, while Aed Yaghi and Bashir Al-Rayes will manage the critical sectors of health and finance, respectively.
Other notable appointments include Adnan Salem Abu Warda for the judiciary, Aed Abu Ramadan for industry and economy, and Jabr al-Daour for education. The committee also includes Ali Barhoum for water and municipalities, Hanaa Tarzi for relief and solidarity, and Abdul Karim Ashour for agriculture.
