Canada became the first G7 nation to recognise a Palestinian state, with Australia and Canada following soon afterwards, reports BBC.
In a statement posted on his X account, Canadian Prime Minister Carney said: “Canada recognises the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, “Today, to revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis, and a two state solution, the United Kingdom formally recognises the State of Palestine.”
Australia followed Canada’s decision to recognise Palestine as a sovereign state, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrote.
He said it is part of a joint effort alongside Canada and Britain and will form “an international effort for a two-state solution”.
