Actor Rasika Dugal has raised concerns about the difficulties faced by women-led films in Hindi cinema, saying many projects struggle to secure producers even after attracting interest from actors.
Speaking to ANI, Dugal said she regularly receives scripts featuring strong female characters, but such projects often fail to receive the backing needed to move forward.
“I get a lot of scripts every day which have very interesting characters, women in the centre, but they often don’t have producers backing them,” she said. “Or if they have, if those films have been made, it’s difficult for them to get releases.”
Dugal also discussed the growing use of artificial intelligence in filmmaking. While she acknowledged that AI could support the writing process, she said she did not believe it should replace human creativity.
“Writing might change with the help of AI. However, it is the distribution which becomes a problem,” she said.
The actor added that AI could be useful as a supporting tool for writers, but should not become the main force behind storytelling. She also admitted that she does not use the technology extensively and is not particularly well-versed in it.
Dugal is currently appearing in Mirzapur: The Movie, reprising her role as Beena Tripathi from the popular series. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Ravi Kishan, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Shweta Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee.
Released in theatres on 4 September, Mirzapur: The Movie reportedly earned ₹57 crore net at the domestic box office in its first two days.
