Uber on Wednesday launched its ride-sharing services in Chattogram, expanding its footprint within Bangladesh as the global platform targets rising demand for app-based urban mobility outside the capital.
The launch will allow residents and visitors in the country’s main port city to book rides through the Uber app, while drivers will gain access to flexible earning opportunities, the company said in a statement.
Uber said the expansion reflects its strategy to widen access to technology-enabled mobility solutions as rapid urbanisation and growing smartphone penetration reshape Bangladesh’s transport sector.
Speaking at the launch event, Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin, state minister for land and Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs, said mobility remained critical to supporting Chattogram’s commercial and economic growth.
“We welcome Uber’s launch in the city and appreciate investments that create flexible earning opportunities, support digital innovation and enhance convenience for residents and visitors alike,” he said.
Uber Country General Manager Redwan Rezvi said Bangladesh remained an important market for the company as it continued expanding access to reliable mobility services.
“We are excited to launch Uber in Chattogram and bring our technology platform to one of the country’s most vibrant and fast-growing cities,” Rezvi said.
Uber first entered Bangladesh in 2016 and has since expanded operations across multiple cities and divisions.
According to the company, Uber served more than 7.2 million riders and created livelihood opportunities for over 350,000 drivers in Bangladesh through 2024.
