Two children drowned in a pond at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barishal on Tuesday night.
Naval fire service personnel recovered the bodies from the hospital pond around 10pm on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Arafat Mollah, 10, son of Biplob Mollah of Bhorpasha village in Bakerganj upazila of Barishal, and Akash, 10, son of tenant Belal under Bazlu Commissioner in Bandar Road area of the city.
Arafat had come to visit his maternal grandmother during Eid holidays.
Arafat’s maternal grandmother Baku Begum said he arrived at her house on Monday morning with his mother in the Bandar Road area of Barishal city.
She said Arafat and Akash went missing from the house from Tuesday morning. Despite searches, they could not be found.
Later, their shoes were found near the pond of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Naval fire service personnel later recovered the bodies from the pond.
Barishal Sadar Fire Service senior station officer Bariul Islam said they conducted a search operation in the hospital pond for around 30 minutes after receiving information from relatives.
He said the bodies of the two children were recovered and handed over to their families.
Locals said Arafat used to play with his friend Akash when he visited his grandmother’s house.
They were found together at the time of recovery.
