Bangladeshi mountaineer Nurunnahar Nimni has reached the summit of Mount Everest, ending a tense wait in the high Himalayas and carrying the national flag to the world’s highest peak at dawn on 27 May.
The Bangladesh Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMTC) confirmed the achievement.
She is the first Bangladeshi woman to scale Everest since Nishat Majumder on 19 May 2012, and Wasfia Nazreen on 26 May the same year. Nimni’s ascent comes 14 years after those milestones.
Nimni left Dhaka for Nepal on 11 April, traveling via Kathmandu and Lukla to Everest Base Camp. After acclimatisation, she began her summit push on 17 May but was forced back from Camp‑4 on 23 May due to bad weather.
She waited at Camp‑2 until conditions improved, resumed her climb on 25 May, and finally reached the summit at 5:24am Nepal time on 27 May, accompanied by a Sherpa from the EightK Expedition.
Currently a Principal Officer in the General Banking Division of Pubali Bank PLC, Nimni was sponsored by the institution.
Raised in Rangpur, she studied geology at Dhaka University, where her interest in mountains began during fieldwork in 2006. She later trekked extensively in Bandarban, Bhutan, Sikkim and Nepal.
Her professional mountaineering journey started after a trek to Everest Base Camp in 2020. She trained at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling in 2022 and joined BMTC the same year, climbing Everest under its banner.
