Turag Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of 59-year-old Regina Momtaz in the capital’s Turag area. The arrestees have been identified as Nure Alam Bagh and Md Russell Madbor, also known as Russell Islam Jony.
Acting on intelligence leads, police conducted a raid at approximately 6:30pm on Tuesday, apprehending Nure Alam from the Sector 15 area of Turag.
Based on information provided by him, police later recovered a pair of stolen gold bangles, a gold chain, a brass nose pin, as well as the Scotch tape and broken glasses used in the homicide, from an office in Sector 12 of Uttara West at around 7:00pm.
The second suspect, Md Russell Madbor, was arrested from the Uttara North Metro Station area.
The victim, Regina Momtaz, resided with her husband in a flat in Sector 15. The incident occurred on Monday night after her husband left for Taraweeh prayers at approximately 8pm.
Upon returning at around 9pm, he found the flat ransacked and his wife lying unconscious on the floor with her hands and feet tied with cloth and her face wrapped in Scotch tape.
She was immediately taken to Dhaka Specialised Hospital, where the attending physician declared her dead.
Review of CCTV footage showed two unidentified masked men entering the flat at 8:30pm. The footage indicates they strangled the victim after binding her limbs and taping her face, before fleeing with a pair of gold bangles, a gold chain, and a gold nose pin.
A murder case was subsequently filed at Turag Police Station. Police confirmed that legal proceedings against the two arrested suspects are currently underway.
