National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has raised questions on whether the nation is transitioning from democracy back into a one-party autocracy.

Speaking as the chief guest at a Sylhet divisional Iftar and Doa Mahfil held at the Hill View Convention Centre on Wednesday, and the opposition chief whip alleged that the administration and various state institutions are being politicised.

Highlighting what he termed “arbitrary appointments” in Bangladesh Bank, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the NCP leader stated that preparations must be made for another struggle.

“However, this time we do not want to make mistakes. We will take to the field with full preparation,” Nahid said. He admitted that errors were made in determining subsequent actions following the mass uprising, which he claimed has led to the current “dilapidated state” of the country.
