The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) has ordered the publication of a notice in two national daily newspapers for the appearance of 12 individuals, including former lawmaker Shamim Osman, in connection with a case involving crimes against humanity.

The order was passed on Wednesday following a hearing where Prosecutor Tareq Abdullah informed the tribunal of the progress regarding the execution of arrest warrants issued against the accused.

The prosecutor stated that law enforcement agencies had searched for the individuals at both their permanent and temporary addresses but were unable to locate them.

Consequently, the prosecution requested the tribunal to direct the publication of a notice in two national dailies to ensure their appearance, a plea which the tribunal subsequently granted.

While Shamim Osman and his son, Ayon Osman, are identified as primary accused in the case, the prosecution has yet to disclose the names of the remaining 10 individuals.

Previously, on 19 January, the tribunal issued arrest warrants against the 12 accused after taking formal charges into cognizance.

The case involves three counts of crimes against humanity related to the killing of 10 people in the Fatullah, Chashara, and Signboard areas of Narayanganj on July 19, July 21, and August 5, 2024, during the July-August mass uprising.

The prosecution further alleged that all the accused, including Shamim Osman and Ayon Osman, were armed during the student-people movement in Narayanganj.
