A truck driver was killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision between two trucks in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Sajib, 25, a truck driver. The injured include helper Jihad, 15, the driver and helper of the other truck.
Officer-in-charge (OC) Abu Obaid of Kushtia Chourhash Highway Police Station confirmed the incident.
According to police and local sources, the incident took place around 4am at the 9 Mile area on Kushtia-Ishwardi highway.
Sajib and Jihad were travelling from Babuganj in Barishal to Rajshahi in a truck to collect mangoes when their vehicle collided head-on with a stone-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. Sajib died on the spot.
The injured were rescued by locals and taken to Kushtia 250-bed General Hospital.
Both trucks were damaged, and traffic on the highway was halted temporarily before returning to normal after about an hour.
Police said the body of Sajib has been kept at the hospital morgue and an investigation is underway.
