The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has ordered investigators to submit the probe report by 16 February in a case over the killing of three people in Gouripur, Mymensingh, during the July–August mass uprising.
The court fixed the same day for the next hearing.
The tribunal passed the order on Wednesday after the prosecution sought two more weeks, citing that the investigation remained incomplete.
Prosecutor Saimum Reza Talukder represented the prosecution during the hearing.
The case involves allegations of crimes against humanity linked to the deaths of Biplob Hasan, Nure Alam Siddique, Md Zubayer.
They were killed during an attack in front of Gouripur Police Station, allegedly carried out by police personnel and leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate organisations during the 2024 uprising.
The accused include Tanzir Ahmed Rajib, general secretary of the Mymensingh District Swechchhasebak League in 2022 and son of former MP Nazim Uddin Ahmed, who represented the Mymensingh-3 (Gouripur) constituency, then Gauripur police station sub-inspector Shafiqul Alam, assistant sub-inspector Delwar Hossain, local Awami League leader Shahabul Alam, Joseph Uddin judge, and Ataur Rahman Fakir, also known as Faruk Ahmad. All the accused have been arrested.
According to the prosecution, police personnel along with leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations attacked people in front of Gauripur police station during the July uprising on 5 August 2024, leaving Biplob Hasan, Md Nure Alam Siddiqui and Md Jubayer dead and many students and members of the public injured.
Following the incident, a case was filed at the ICT-2 accusing the defendants of committing crimes against humanity in connection with the violence.
