Minister for Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Mohammad Aminur Rashid stressed the need for ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective monitoring to successfully implement government-announced programmes.
He directed the officials concerned to perform their duties with a high sense of responsibility and sincerity to achieve these objectives.
The minister made these remarks during a discussion meeting held at the conference room of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Tuesday morning.
The meeting, which focused on the implementation of the government’s 180-day programme, was attended by joint secretaries and higher-ranking officials of the ministry, alongside various project directors.
Describing the 180-day programme as a significant welfare-oriented initiative, Aminur noted that the scheme was adopted to implement the development plan of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the government’s political commitments.
He emphasised that the primary goal of this initiative is to bring about positive changes in the lives of the public.
Addressing the officials, the minister urged those responsible for implementing the programme across different regions of the country to perform their duties properly.
He sought the sincere and full cooperation of everyone to fulfil the government’s pledges to the citizens, expressing hope that collective efforts would ensure the benefits of these programmes reach the people.
Regarding documentation and public disclosure, Aminur insisted that minimum data and evidence for every activity must be preserved so that actual progress can be presented to the public when necessary.
He laid particular emphasis on maintaining and publicising transparent information at the Union and Upazila levels regarding the specific individuals or institutions receiving benefits under the programme.
The minister further observed that the public should be informed about the government’s development activities in a simple and accessible manner. He stated that information sharing should not be confined to websites alone; rather, visible and people-friendly information disclosure must be ensured at the field level.
Aminur added that maintaining maximum transparency at the local level is essential for building public trust and confidence in government activities.
“I want to establish such a transparent and accountable environment where we can say with confidence that the government’s activities are being implemented correctly and the people are reaping the benefits,” Rashid said.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Md Delwar Hossain, secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock; Md Zia Haider Chowdhury, director general of the Department of Fisheries; and Md Shahjaman Khan, director general of the Department of Livestock Services, along with senior ministry officials and various project directors.
